I’m in Perth this week for the Perth International. It is my first professional event as a pro and what a great way to start as it’s a co-sanction European Tour Event and there are some amazing players competing such as Greg Chalmers, Paul Casey, Jason Dufner and the Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel. I could really get use to this kind of life, getting looked after very well and have been put up in the Crown Casino for the week.
The Perth International is being played around Lake Karrinyup where the Australian Amateur was played in 2010. I have had success around this golf course where I finished runner up in the 2010 Australian Amateur to Matt Jager who is my room mate for the week. Its good to be able to draw from the great memories around this course and have played so many rounds here also.
Did a junior coaching clinic with Craig Parry yesterday, which was a great experience. Was such a buzz to be up there with Craig as he is someone who has been at the top level of the sport, playing over 50 Majors .We worked with a great bunch of kids and I hope they enjoyed the experience. I got caught out on the autograph front as I haven’t had to do that much.
Got fitted for the new Titleist 913 series Woods and Hybrid this week. Looking forward to putting them into play next week when I receive them. They don’t look a lot different to the 910 series but come off a lot hotter and really like the feel of them. I’m sure they will be on the shelf in the next few weeks for everyone to try.
The World Team Amateur in Turkey was not as successful as we had wished. Didn’t play as well as I would have like and we finished 24th overall. Still learnt a lot from the week and took a lot away from the event. It wasn’t how I wanted to go out as an amateur but for my last amateur event to be the Worlds and representing my country it was still a great send off.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me over the last few years as an amateur, big thanks to all my family and great friends I have that are always there for me, definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without all your support. It has been a great experience and I’m really looking forward to the new chapter in my life.
